Real Estate
Just for
Sellers
Choosing a Realtor to sell your property is a lot like a job
interview and you are the boss. You need to know the right
questions if you are going to get the right person. And let's
face it, this may be one of the most important job interviews you
do, so let me see if I can help you out a little:
1st
question: Are you are Realtor/Salesperson or a Realtor/Broker?
Background:
A Salesperson after two weeks of education, passes a test, and is
handed their license. No education required. They are
required to work under the supervision of a Broker.
A Broker is Licensed by
the State of Washington to transact Real Estate, because they have
to meet a more advanced education requirement and to pass a much
more difficult test.
I am a Realtor/Broker.
2nd question: What skills do
you have to aid in the Presentation of my home for sale?
Background:
If a person is going to
help you with the presentation of your home for sale, they should
have education and experience. The industry promotes an
Accredited Staging Professional Course (two days). And I would
think that this would be
a minimum for the person you choose to help you present your home.
I am a Certified Feng
Shui Practitioner. That means that I took a 9 days course on
interior and exterior design.
3rd question: How are you
going to promote my house?
Background:
If any portion of the
answer given includes doing Open Houses, Broker's Opens, Newspaper
and Magazine Advertising, I would recommend that you just move on to
the next applicant. Those ideas were effect only years before
the internet. If the person you are interviewing doesn't have
a firm and aggressive knowledge of internet promotion, you are not
going to get the best result.
I am a webmaster with
over 20 years of experience in technology.
4th question: Where did you
get your negotiating and legal skills?
Background:
Negotiating skills,
education, and professionalism will make all the difference on how
effective and smooth the sale of your house goes. These are things
that you just can't get from a few hours spent in a few classes.
I have a Bachelors in
Accounting, I have education and experience in contract law and
negotiations at the personal and corporate level. I was a
corporate executive for many years before going into consulting and
real estate.
These are just some of the more important questions that I never see in the newspaper when they are trying
to educate the public. I hope this has been of some help and if you have any questions, just send me an email
(dana@danakohut.com) or give me a call 425.260.2014. I am always happy to help.
